My first Blog!

Hi everybody! Welcome to my first ever blog! I've always thought about starting one, but I don't exactly have THAT much exciting stuff going on in my life to tell you! So this is just a place for me to have a bit of a babble and for you to choose whether to read through it all or not! I suppose if I do end up doing anything exciting, I can and will share it with you here!

So I guess for my first ever blog, I'll tell you all about our heatwave! Here in Adelaide we have been having some really insane weather over the last week. I believe last Tuesday the temperature reached 45.7 degrees - CELSIUS! That is apparently the hottest day we have had since 1939 - 70 years ago! I just went to see The Wizard of Oz at the Moonlight Cinema a couple of weeks ago. That movie was also made in 1939... So that gives you a bit more of a perspective on how long ago we had a day as hot as this!

The only time I can remember being in such hot weather was last year during my road trip to the Northern Territory. Perhaps I'll write a blog about that sometime! I think I have been across the Nullabor to/from Perth and then along the West Australian coast to/from Dampier and Karratha. I was only about 5 years old, so I don't remember the heat that much.

Anyway back to our current heatwave! Every day for at least a week it has been over 40 degrees! At night, the temperature has dropped down to what would be considered a 'perfect Summer day'. I've had trouble sleeping on a few nights so I've gone downstairs to watch the Weather Channel on Foxtel. One night it was still 34 degrees at 1am! Last night the wind picked up and there was such a refreshing cool, lifegiving breeze. There are meant to be more days in the high 30s for this coming week and by Saturday I believe it may be time to get the jumpers out, with a maximum of only 30! =0Þ

I am so grateful that our air conditioning has been working and that *touch wood* we have had hardly any blackouts! There have been many throughout Adelaide, some areas have been hit hard! I'd be quite happy to 'share' the blackouts. It is really unfair and inhumane that some areas have been without power for 12+ hours! Imagine the elderly or those with young children or babies! Also, no power for 12 hours in this heat would almost certainly defrost the fridge or deep-freeze, spoiling everything inside.

I'm a huge fan of summer and I don't mind the occasional scorching hot day. I found it a novelty to go through the middle of Australia in searing temperatures. But this many hot days for so long has driven many of us a little loopy! Sadly there have also been deaths reported from this heatwave. It feels like you've have had a shower in superglue, just minutes after having stepped out of a nice cold shower. Even the water in the shower isn't super cold anymore with only the cold tap running!

Anyway, there should be SOME relief in sight soon and this morning already feels a lot cooler. But what would be really nice right about now is for some big black clouds to roll over and blanket us in cool darkness. A thunderstorm tonight would be delightful, with some welcome and much needed rain!

Thanks for reading my first blog! I'll be back soon with other bits n pieces about moi! :)
